Comparing Pakistan’s Major Provincial Number Plate Designs
Pakistan’s vehicle registration system has evolved significantly over the past two decades. Today, each major administrative division issues number plates with distinctive visual elements, typography, and anti-counterfeiting features.
1. Punjab New Style Number Plates
The Punjab Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department introduced standardized plates featuring:
- Top Green Header: Stamped with ‘PUNJAB’ in crisp sans-serif lettering.
- Provincial Seal: The official wheat ear and river crest on the upper left corner.
- Registration Series: 3 letters representing the series followed by 3 or 4 digits.
- Standard Dimensions: 12 x 6 inches for standard automotive front and rear bumpers.
2. Sindh Provincial Number Plates
Sindh plates are instantly recognizable across Pakistan:
- Cultural Emblem: Features the geometric Ajrak border and provincial government emblem.
- Contrast & Readability: High contrast black lettering on white reflective background for private cars, and black on yellow for commercial vehicles.
- Serial Formatting: Distinct series indicating Karachi and other administrative divisions.
3. Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Number Plates
Federal capital plates have long been prized by car enthusiasts for their understated elegance:
- Federal Styling: Features ‘ISLAMABAD’ cleanly centered with the Pakistan national crescent and star.
- Minimalist Aesthetic: Clean, uncluttered layout favored for imported luxury sedans and SUVs.
